High School Teacher
I began teaching at LCM High School in the fall of 2009. I teach English II and I am the adviser of the yearbook and the online student newspaper. I am also the coach of the UIL Journalism team.
For the past three years, our online newspaper (lcmbearfacts.com) was named an SNO Distinguished Site and we received awards in all six of the following categories: Continuing Coverage, Multimedia, Site Excellence, Audience Engagement, Excellence in Writing, and Story Page Excellence.
I was awarded the Orange County Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Month in February 2017, as well as the 2017 LCMHS Teacher of the Year and the 2017 LCMCISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.
While attending college at SFA,I served as the Sports Editor of the university newspaper, The Pine Log, for two years and then served as Editor my senior year. During this time, I also wrote part-time for the local newspaper, The Daily Sentinel, and worked at the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau, where I gained a tremendous amount of experience in the world of public relations and journalism.
After graduation from SFA, I worked as a community relations director at an assisted living facility. Most of my responsibilities included overseeing all marketing and advertising functions. During this time, I coordinated several community events, including the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and helped open a successful memory care unit designed to enhance and protect the lives of those living with Alzheimer's disease.
While teaching, I have also written free-lance articles for local newspapers.
I married my husband, Quinton Fruge, in June of 2014, My stepson, Cooper, is in 8th grade, and my husband and I welcomed our other son, Kipp, in January of 2019.
